Kunku is the story of a 19 year old girl Janki. She is cheerful and full of life. She is the daughter of a poor farmer Subhan Pawar. Janki lives with her parents and brother and is now seeing the tough and poverty stricken life that her family is passing, making it difficult to afford even a good enough meal for themselves. Subhan Pawar is busy thinking of ways to fight this poverty. He thinks of moving to another village that could offer possibilities of working as a labourer and bring in the additional money to make a living. However, he is constantly worried about the plight of young and innocent Janki if she were to take up work as well.
MLA Narsingh Killedar comes to their rescue and Subhan is convinced that his daughter would be safe at his home in the city. He is a widower. Meanwhile, The MLA's aunt is worried about the prophecy of a lady that Narsingh could become a victim of premature death if he did not pay heed to the warning of remarrying a younger unmarried girl. Janki is wittily trapped into this and married off to the Killedaar and thereafter begins her true journey of life from the village to the city. How will this affect the emotional well being of Janki, How will she accept the new situation and family, Will the family accept her well, Will she be treated well by Narsingh Killedaar?
